Introducing The Courtyard Photography Workshops

This weekend, we had the pleasure of hosting our FIRST EVER photography workshop with seven photo enthusiasts from across Scotland. We were thrilled by the response we received when we first started selling vouchers for the classes, and I think we can truly say that the day was a complete success! Our plan was never to stand in front of the students and try and drill in the rules of aperture, shutter speed etc. These guys were beginners, and it was important we kick started their photography journey with a bit of imagination and creativity. So they got to work on the projects, photographing everyday objects that anyone can find around their house, in as many different ways as they could imagine. We wanted the workshop to be as hands-on as possible, so our students could learn to take the photos they wanted with any camera they had – just by paying attention to the importance of light and framing. Here’s what some of the attendees had to say…

“Just spent the most enjoyable 4 hours at a photography workshop, Beth’s relaxed method of communicating and getting the group to view everyday objects in a new light is inspirational. This is a “hands on” class where you are encouraged to experiment and master the art of using light to achieve the image you have in your mind. We also had the opportunity to photograph a live model in the courtyard setting as well as the studio , Ciara was very patient with us and took away the… nerves that all amateurs would have after seeing a professional work with her then having us try to emulate this ourselves. Emma was constantly on had to offer help and advice where and when required. From the hobby photographer to the younger students looking to photography as a future career this class has you thinking about your camera and your photographs from a new and exciting angle. If there are future classes, I wouldn’t hesitate.” – Linda Causer

“I’ve just enjoyed training day with Beth Hodge and wanted to post a short note to say thank you for delivering a fantastic event. If you have never been on a training day with Beth you are missing out on one of life’s great pleasures – not only does she have a fantastic eye and an understanding of light and colour, she is a fabulous communicator and willing to share all her knowledge. Beth will inspire you and it will be fun.” – John Donlin

A big thanks to John and Linda for their lovely comments on our facebook page. If you’re interested in taking part in one of our workshops, simply drop us an email with your interest or give us a call!

In the meantime, you can enjoy our slideshow of the day’s highlights. We really enjoyed ourselves and can’t wait to start organising our next workshop. A huge thanks to all those who came along and we hope you found it as rewarding as we did!
